In 1994 sister Josipa Kordić founded the Missionary Sisters of Wounded Family. This year was proclaimed as the year of families by St. John Paul II. Sister Josipa Kordić has stayed in Rome for some time and several times participated a special reception of Pope John Paul II who encouraged her to start the Association of Missionary Sisters of Wounded Family. She consulted many spiritual persons, but mostly cardinal Ivan Diaz who can be regarded as her spiritual father. Dr Ratko Perić, the bishop of Mostar, participated in naming of the Association as well.
After long and hard volunteering during the Civil War, she fell ill with the severe illness of cancer and died in 2003. After her death, the Association consisted of five sisters and the Pope John Paul II Family Center in Vionica, Međugorje County.
